How can you identify a genuine antique Persian rug?
A hand-knotted Persian rug reveals its individually tied knots on the reverse — the design is clearly visible in mirror image and is never printed or glued on as with machine-made goods. Further marks of authenticity include subtle “abrash” (natural colour variation from hand-dyed wool), small deliberate irregularities in the pattern, hand-knotted fringes that are an extension of the warp, and natural materials such as kork wool and silk. Every rug in the Djoharian Collection is supplied with a certified appraisal of origin, material and knot density.
