Antique Sarouk Rug
198 × 125 cm · Rare Deep Indigo
A rare blue-ground Sarouk preserved in excellent antique condition.
Provenance and Rarity
This antique Sarouk (Sarough) is a remarkable survivor from the golden era of Persian weaving, knotted between 1900 and 1930. While most Sarouks of this period were made in rust or red tones for the American market, this piece has a rare deep indigo field. Blue-ground antique Sarouks are considerably harder to find and are sought after by connoisseurs.
The design captures the transition from the botanical, curvilinear motifs of Art Nouveau to the structured, balanced floral sprays of early Art Deco. Known for their knot density and Persian highland wool, these rugs remain as serviceable today as they were a century ago.
Presence in the Room
At 198 × 125 cm (2.5 m²) this is a concentrated small format. Its deep blue tones give a calm foundation to a contemporary bedroom or a classic library, and ground modern furniture with a century of history.
