Provenance and Sabah Collection
The Sabah collection is a Djoharian Design creation, hand-knotted by experienced women weavers in the region of Khenifra in Morocco. Unlike traditional Beni Ourain rugs from established village ateliers, the Sabah line is curated and produced under our own design direction — every piece a one-off, each signed by the hand that made it. The pile is built exclusively from imported fine merino wool, which gives Sabah pieces their characteristic softness underfoot.
This piece was hand-knotted in the Khenifra region of Morocco from 100% imported fine merino wool on a wool foundation, with a deep pile of 18 to 22 mm. The 200 × 140 cm format is among the most popular sizes in the Sabah collection.
Colour and Composition
A quiet, contemporary composition: a luminous ivory-cream ground scattered with a regular all-over grid of small saffron-gold cross motifs. Where vintage Berbers carry their stories in patina, Sabah pieces are built fresh — pristine condition, freshly woven, the merino pile in full loft. The piece is finished with a saffron-and-ivory striped kilim end-band and natural wool fringes.
Presence in the Room
At 200 × 140 cm (5 × 7 ft), 2.8 m² this is a small-to-medium format. Three contexts in which the Sabah reaches its full effect:
- Living room reading corner: the deep pile and soft palette work as anchor for a single armchair or a quiet seating group.
- Bedside: the merino surface beside a bed gives a warm tactile floor for bare feet at the start and end of the day.
- Minimalist scheme: as a soft-edged anchor in a deliberately reduced interior, the ivory-and-saffron palette adds warmth without visual noise.
