Qum Silk Rug
57 × 75 cm · Kheshti Tile Design
Approximately 650 knots per inch² — silk pile on a silk foundation.
A Collector Silk in Miniature Format
Qum (Ghom) has been the centre of the finest contemporary Persian silk weaving since the mid-twentieth century. This small-format piece comes from a Qum atelier and is hand-knotted entirely in mulberry silk — both pile and foundation. At approximately 650 knots per inch², the knot count places it firmly in the workshop-grade range that defines collector silks from this region.
Kheshti — Tile Composition
The design is a Kheshti (tile) composition: small framed compartments arranged in disciplined rows, each carrying its own floral motif — flowering plants, cypresses and slender trees — against a warm caramel-brown ground. The palette runs warm brown and gold through ivory, indigo and sky blue, with rose-red and green accents, framed by a fine multi-band border. At this scale the design reads like a manuscript page: every detail is visible at arm's length, and the silk gives each compartment its own shift of light.
Placement and Display
At 57 × 75 cm the format invites display rather than floor traffic. It works as a wall hanging behind a console or in a reading corner, as a centred piece on a low table, or laid in an entryway where the silk catches changing light. Use a non-slip pad if placed on smooth flooring; suitable above underfloor heating.
