Bidjar Erased Designer Rug

A contemporary designer rug from our own Djoharian Design line, hand-knotted in Nepal from Tibetan highland wool with silk highlights. A classic Bidjar floral, partly dissolved into the ground — the “erased” look that joins old Persian motifs to a calm, modern palette.
The Erased Design
The drawing begins as a dense, traditional Bidjar floral — the lush, all-over flower-and-vine pattern of the classic Persian Bidjar — and is then partly “erased”, as if worn away by time. Across the field the motif fades in and out of a soft sand-coloured ground, dense and saturated in places, barely a whisper in others. It is a way of carrying centuries-old ornament into a contemporary interior: the heritage is unmistakable, but the effect is quiet, modern and abstract.
Material and Weave
The pile blends two-thirds Tibetan highland wool with one-third silk (66% wool, 34% silk). The hand-spun wool forms the warm, dove-toned ground; the silk carries the blue and turquoise of the pattern, catching the light so the floral seems to glow against the matte wool. It is hand-knotted in Nepal with the Tibetan knot, with a pile height of roughly 8–10 mm.
Quality · 100 kpsi
The rug is knotted at a fine 100 kpsi (knots per square inch) — roughly 155,000 knots per square metre. That density gives the erased floral its soft, painterly edges, where the pattern can dissolve gradually into the ground rather than stopping at a hard line.
Presence in the Room
At 300 × 250 cm (7.50 m²) this is a generous room-size rug — a true 8 × 10 ft format:
- Dining room: ample for a table of six to eight with chairs pulled out, the soft pattern forgiving of daily use.
- Living room: large enough to carry a full seating group, anchoring sofa and chairs on a calm, luminous ground.
- Modern and transitional interiors: the muted beige and blue sit easily with both contemporary and classic furnishings.
