A vintage Tabriz in the Heriz manner — a geometric allover on a soft camel ground, worn to a quiet patina.
Tabriz is one of the most enduring workshop cities. By the mid-twentieth century, alongside the city's fine atelier production, a parallel body of more workmanlike pieces emerged — generous formats, wool pile, classical compositions worked at a relaxed knot density. Decades of use, careful washing and the natural fading of vegetable dyes have settled this piece into the soft, muted palette that contemporary interiors find easier to live with than a brand-new, fully saturated rug.
The design is a geometric allover in the Heriz manner — large serrated star-rosettes, diamonds and angular vine-and-leaf motifs spread across the full field, with no central medallion. A wide ivory-and-sand main border carries geometric vine and “crab” motifs, framed by blue-grey minor borders. The palette is warm and low-contrast: a camel-to-taupe brown ground, ivory and sand in the border and motifs, with soft blue-grey and olive accents. The pile has been worn and washed to the point where the drawing reads as a quiet, harmonious surface rather than a graphic statement — “worn to perfection” is the trade term for this state.
At 280 × 200 cm (5.6 m², approx. 9 × 7 ft) the piece sits well under a seating group, in a mid-sized living room, or in a generous bedroom in front of the bed. Wool pile is durable for everyday use. Use a non-slip pad on smooth flooring; suitable above underfloor heating. Muted Tabriz works particularly well in rooms with strong architectural lines or contemporary furniture, where its softness balances harder elements.

★★★★★KayWe were unsure which rug to choose, and wanted a rug that was in almost new condition. Karl was very honest about the conditions of the rug, even details/"defects" that we cannto necessarily see on a computer screen, In the end, our Tibetan rug came early which was perfect timing for our new home, and in the good condition just as Karl described. We absolutely love our new rug. Thank you.
