The Mazandaran Roxane Line

The Mazandaran Roxane Collection is a Djoharian Design line of oversized hand-woven kilims inspired by the panel and checkerboard idioms of the Caspian region of northern Iran. These flatweaves combine tribal weaving traditions with a Scandinavian-Art-Deco aesthetic, making them a graphic foundation for contemporary interiors. The kilims are hand-woven from hand-spun wool, with a clean panel composition that reads as both tribal and minimalist.

This piece is the Red and Grey variant in the 10 × 13 ft format — the smaller size in the Mazandaran Roxane line, sized for large living and dining rooms.

Colour and Composition

The palette pairs red panels with quiet grey grounds in a clean checkerboard rhythm. The flatweave construction gives the surface an ultra-thin, almost graphic presence (height approx. 0.3 cm), while the hand-spun wool retains a subtle textural variation.

Presence in the Room

At 300 × 400 cm (12 m², approx. 10 × 13 ft) this is an extra-large room-size piece. Three contexts in which the Mazandaran Roxane comes into its own:

• Modern living room: the red-grey checkerboard reads as a graphic foundation under a sofa group of four to five pieces — suited to interiors with raw concrete, blackened steel or pale oak.
• Dining room for eight to ten: under a long table, the panel rhythm reads as a measured architectural pattern from above.
