Provenance and Design Heritage

This is a generously sized vintage Persian rug from the Tabriz tradition of northwest Iran, in a muted, distressed look. The classical floral vocabulary has softened, and the low, closely sheared pile lets the design read almost like a fine drawing across a pale greige ground. The floral structure is still fully legible; the colours have settled into a muted patina that suits linen, oak, concrete and natural light.

The piece was hand-knotted from 100 % wool on a cotton foundation in the classical Tabriz floral vocabulary — an all-over field of palmettes, blossoms and scrolling vines, framed by a wide floral border with scalloped corner spandrels. The low pile gives the surface a flat, almost textile-like hand, and the rug shows visible signs of age.

Colour and Composition

The palette is built on a muted greige and ivory ground with softly faded floral motifs in grey and soft taupe. The surface shows wear and natural patina consistent with its age.

Presence in the Room

At 274 × 366 cm (10.0 m²) this is a large room-size piece in the international 9 × 12 ft format. Three contexts in which the rug works well:

• Modern living room: a scale that suits a full sofa group of three to four pieces, with raw oak, linen and natural light.
• Dining room: under a long table for eight to ten, the softened floral field reads as a calm pattern from above.
• Open-plan loft: the muted register pairs with raw concrete, blackened steel and natural materials.
