Vintage Kirman Rug
10.3 × 13.3 ft · 315 × 405 cm · Red Floral
A red field and a central floral medallion, framed by a broad border of flowers and scrolling foliage in pink, blue, green and beige. A large vintage Kirman from around 1970–1980, hand-knotted in wool on a cotton foundation.
Origin
Kirman (Kerman), in south-east Persia, is known for its floral drawing and finely graded colours. In the 20th century its workshops wove large decorative carpets in particular, many of them for European and American homes. This piece dates from around 1970–1980 and is in very good condition for its age, with minor signs of use and a soft patina; it has been freshly washed. More pieces in our antique and vintage collection.
Design and Colour
At the centre sits a floral medallion on a red field. A broad border of flowers and scrolling foliage in pink, blue, green and beige frames the composition. The drawing is decorative and generous, and works with classic furniture as well as with a more restrained contemporary interior.
In the Room
At 315 × 405 cm (10.3 × 13.3 ft, 12.76 m²) this is an oversize format for large rooms:
- Drawing room or living room: carries a complete seating group with room to spare, in rooms from about 4.5 × 5.5 m (15 × 18 ft).
- Dining room: takes a table for ten to twelve, with the chairs still on the rug when pulled back.
- Hall or open-plan space: gives a large room with a hard floor a warm, coloured centre.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the rug show signs of age?
Lightly. It is in very good condition for its age, with minor signs of use and a soft patina, and has been freshly washed. We are happy to send detailed photographs of any area.
How is a rug of this size delivered?
Folded and rolled, protected and fully insured. After unpacking, the rug may show a few gentle waves; they relax within a short time once it is laid flat. The rug weighs about 39 kg; please allow for this when it is carried in.
Is the rug suitable for underfloor heating?
Yes. A hand-knotted rug with a natural-fibre pile lets the heat through without problems. More in our guide to rugs and underfloor heating.
