Sherkat Farsh Bidjar – Hand-Knotted Rosenbidjar in Red, Blue and Ivory
A fine Bidjar from the renowned state manufactory Sherkat Farsh – the legendary „iron rug of Persia“ in the classical Rosenbidjar pattern, hand-knotted at 320,000 knots per m².
Workshop Heritage and Knotting Tradition
Bidjar is a small town in the Kurdish region of northwestern Iran, and its rugs occupy a unique position in the Persian canon. Bidjars are known across the rug world as the „iron rug of Persia“ – hand-knotted at extreme density, beaten down so firmly during weaving that the resulting fabric is almost rigid. The exceptional structural integrity gives a Bidjar a working life measured in generations rather than years.
This piece comes from the Sherkat Farsh manufactory – the state-owned Iranian rug production house, founded to preserve and elevate the highest standards of Persian weaving. Sherkat Farsh pieces are subject to the strictest quality controls and guarantee authentic patterns, finest wool and full traceability – the manufactory has been a byword for verifiable quality in the international Persian rug trade for decades.
This piece was hand-knotted in the Bidjar tradition at a density of approximately 320,000 knots per m² (206 knots per inch²), from 100% finest virgin wool on a cotton foundation. The composition follows the classical Rosenbidjar pattern: a central medallion on an ivory ground, surrounded by a dense allover of red roses and rose sprays with blue scrolling vines and floral corner spandrels, in a palette of strong red, deep and light blue, ivory and olive-green accents. The Rosenbidjar is one of the most prestigious of the Bidjar repertoire – a working classic at the top of the discipline.
Presence in the Room
At 257 × 154 cm (4.0 m²) this is a generous medium room-size piece. Three contexts in which the Bidjar reaches its full effect:
- Living room: Anchoring a sofa group of three to four pieces, the warm Rosenbidjar palette adds depth and prestige to interiors built around wood, leather and stone.
- Conference or executive office: The exceptional Bidjar durability makes this piece ideal for high-traffic representative spaces where lesser rugs would not survive.
- Library or study: Beside a writing desk or beneath a reading chair, the dense Rosenbidjar field rewards close looking as fine textile art.
