Abadeh Rug
3 × 5 ft · 100 × 155 cm · Ivory & Brick Red
A new hand-knotted Abadeh — an ivory field scattered with tribal animals and blossoms around a stepped diamond medallion, framed in brick red.
Abadeh — Tribal Weaving of Fars
The town of Abadeh lies on the road between Shiraz and Isfahan, in the province of Fars. Abadeh rugs draw on the geometric vocabulary of the Qashqai nomads of the region, arranged in a clearer, more ordered layout. The classic Abadeh design, woven here, is built around a stepped diamond medallion on an open ivory field, anchored at the four corners by dark Heybatlu motifs.
This piece is hand-knotted in 100 % wool on a cotton foundation. As a new rug it has its full pile.
Colour and Composition
An ivory-cream field carries a stepped diamond medallion with a small petrol-green centre worked in red and cream. The field is scattered with tribal motifs: birds, roosters, animals and small human figures, along with blossoms, vases and geometric sprays in brick red, petrol green, light blue, mustard-gold, brown, black and salmon. The four corners and spandrels are worked in warm brick red / terracotta, each anchored by a dark Heybatlu cross-medallion. An ivory main border carries a floral vine in red, petrol and brown, set off by indigo guard stripes.
Presence in the Room
At 100 × 155 cm (1.55 m²) this is a small format. Three settings in which it works well:
- Study or reading nook: beside a desk or under a single armchair, where the scattered motifs can be looked at up close.
- Entrance or hallway: a small tribal rug that brings colour to the way into the home.
- Bedroom accent: beside the bed or at its foot, the ivory ground keeps the room light while the motifs add character.
