Rugs by material
The material decides more about a rug than its origin: how it wears, how it feels underfoot, how it takes colour and how it has to be cleaned. Every rug in the shop is listed under the fibre of its pile, and each product states the exact composition.
The materials
- Wool — the material for rooms in daily use. Resilient, naturally soil-resistant, and it recovers from furniture dents.
- Wool & silk — silk as highlights that outline the pattern, or as a larger share for depth and sheen. The more silk, the more care the rug needs.
- Silk — the finest drawing and the highest knot densities, with a pile that changes colour with the light. For rooms with light traffic, or the wall.
- Viscose — a fibre regenerated from plant cellulose, high in sheen and saturated in colour. Sensitive to water and pressure.
- Wool & viscose — a wool pile with viscose for sheen and contrast. Wears better than pure viscose.
Trade names and fibre names
Names such as “bamboo silk”, “art silk” or “Sari Silk” are trade names; the fibre behind them is viscose, and that is what the material line in the product specification says. Terms such as kork wool or highland wool describe the quality of the wool and appear in the description; the specification gives the fibre name required by textile labelling law.
Alpaca, mohair and cashmere
For made-to-measure rugs we also work with baby alpaca, mohair and cashmere, and every material can be combined with any other. Made-to-measure rugs
