Viscose is a fibre regenerated from plant cellulose. In the rug trade it is often sold under names such as “bamboo silk” or “art silk”; the material is viscose. It gives a high sheen, a soft hand and clear, saturated colour, which is why it is used for plain and contemporary designs.

Viscose is sensitive to water and pressure: spills can leave marks, and the pile crushes in walking lines. It belongs in a bedroom or a quiet living area rather than in a hallway or under a dining table, and it should be cleaned professionally.
