Small enough to place almost anywhere, large enough to read as a rug rather than a mat. This is the format for an entrance, a kitchen, the floor beside a bed, or the strip in front of a bookcase — and it is the size at which tribal weaving is at its most affordable, because these were the pieces woven for a family’s own use rather than for export.
It is also a practical wall size. A finely knotted piece at these dimensions hangs like a picture and takes the echo out of a hard room.
