Vintage Beni M'Guild Berber Vloerkleed

Een hoogpolig berberkleed uit de Midden-Atlas, rond 1970 — een gestapeld ruitpatroon in karmijnrood, antraciet en crème.

Herkomst en tribale traditie

De Beni M'Guild zijn een van de grote Berberse stamconfederaties van de Marokkaanse Midden-Atlas. Hun kleden worden geknoopt door de vrouwen van de stam in een ambacht dat van generatie op generatie wordt doorgegeven, elk motief geput uit een visueel vocabulaire ouder dan de moderne Marokkaanse staat. Dit stuk werd rond 1970 geknoopt in de traditionele wol-op-wol-constructie — handgesponnen schapenwol in pool en grondweefsel — met de diepe, zachte pool (ca. 2,5 cm) die authentiek Atlas-knoopwerk onderscheidt van hedendaagse imitaties.

Kleur en compositie

Het veld is opgebouwd uit een krachtig verticaal gestapeld ruitpatroon — grote concentrische ruiten over de volle lengte van het kleed, gevuld met fijne gestippelde en gehaakte tribale tekening en incidentele dambordpanelen. Het palet is een verzadigd, licht gemêleerd (abrash) karmijnrood tegen antracietzwarte contouren en een gespikkeld crème en zacht roze; de mix van geverfde en ongeverfde wol geeft het oppervlak zijn karakteristieke gespikkelde diepte. De tekening leest tegelijk archaïsch en onmiskenbaar hedendaags — het soort grafische uitspraak waaromheen minimalistische interieurs worden gebouwd.

Aanwezigheid in de ruimte

Met 365 × 195 cm (7,1 m², ca. 12 × 6 ft) is dit een royaal, lang large formaat. Drie contexten waarin het zijn volle werking bereikt:

  • Minimalistisch loft: het rood-crème-palet en de diepe pool verankeren een gereduceerd interieur met tactiele warmte en tribale diepte.
  • Gezinsruimte: de zachte, zware pool en de abstracte motieven werken bijzonder goed in ruimtes gedeeld met kinderen en huisdieren.
  • Studeerkamer of bibliotheek: het verzadigde palet past natuurlijk bij donker hout, leer en boeken voor een levendig blikpunt.
