The Royal Khotan Line
The Royal Khotan Collection is our line of hand-knotted Khotan-Samarkand-design rugs from Afghanistan, woven at 100 knots per square inch in finest sheep's wool. The Khotan and Samarkand designs come from the oasis cities of the southern Silk Road in East Turkestan (today's Xinjiang), defined by a quiet geometric clarity — framed medallions, pomegranate motifs, broad borders — that has remained one of the most architecturally readable design families in the Oriental rug canon.
This piece carries that historic vocabulary in a contemporary register: the muted grey-beige palette with subtle rust accents and a short-cut pile give the surface an immediate, lived-in patina, while the geometry remains crisp and orderly.
Presence in the Room
At 351 × 270 cm (9.5 m², approx. 9 × 12 ft) this is a generous extra-large room-size piece. Three contexts in which the Royal Khotan reaches its full effect:
- Modern living room: Beneath a sofa group of four to five pieces, the quiet grey-beige palette opens the room rather than weighing it down — ideal for interiors built around natural stone, concrete or pale oak.
