Silk Rugs

A pure silk rug allows a density of knots and a fineness of drawing that wool cannot reach, which is why Qum, Kashan and Hereke workshops have used it for their finest pieces. The pile changes colour with the angle of light: seen from one end a field looks pale, from the other it deepens.

Silk is less forgiving than wool. It marks with water, flattens in walking lines and should be cleaned professionally, not at home. These rugs are at their best where they are seen more than walked on: a bedroom, a study, or the wall.
