The bold geometry of a Heriz in a gentle, light palette: angular palmettes and serrated sickle leaves in rose, olive and midnight blue on warm ivory, framed by a rose-coloured border.
Provenance: Ardebil
Ardebil lies in northwestern Iran, near the Caspian Sea and not far from Heriz. Its weavers are known for taking up classic designs from neighbouring regions and reinterpreting them in their own, often lighter colours. This piece follows the design language of a Heriz: angular palmettes, serrated leaves and long vines that order the field in a clear, almost architectural structure.
Design: Palmettes on Ivory
Instead of the typical strong Heriz red, the pattern rests on a warm ivory ground. Large palmettes glow in rose and salmon, the sickle leaves in olive, while two midnight-blue tree motifs on the central axis add strong accents. A small medallion with a rosette sits at the centre. The broad rose main border carries midnight-blue vines and rosettes, framed by narrow light guard stripes.
Quality
Knotted at approximately 250,000 knots per square metre, or roughly 161 kpsi, in 100% wool on a cotton foundation, with a pile of about 9 mm and a weight of around 15 kg.
