      The bedroom is the one room where softness counts for more than durability, because traffic is light and feet are bare. Long-pile Berbers, Tibetan wool and fine silk pieces all work well here.

      There are two practical layouts: one large rug across the lower two thirds of the bed, extending at least 50 to 60 cm on each side, or a runner or small rug on each side of the bed. Both are more useful than a small rug at the foot of the bed.
